In 1 Samuel 7:3-4, Samuel calls the people to repent by turning to God with all their hearts and ridding themselves of foreign Gods. Then in verse 9 it says, “He cried out to the Lord on Israel’s behalf, and the Lord answered him.” That is the challenge that is before any pastor. It is a balance between leading the people to a closer walk while you are crying out to God on their behalf. If you do just one of these, it doesn’t carry the same power.

I asked everyone to pray for Northridge on January 2. I just wanted to remind everyone to pray. If you are not a Northridger, you can pray these things for your church.
We need everyone to pray for our church. I Chronicles 4:9-10 will give us a pattern for our prayers.
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 - Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, "I gave birth to him in pain." Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.
Ask God to bless us with…· Workers for the harvest - Matt 9:36-38
· Resources to do the job
WARNING – As you pray, God may call you to work, give, or share.
Ask God to enlarge our territory by…
· Effective local outreach
· Helping our world outreach partners reach souls
· Giving us more people
Ask God to protect us from harm by...
· Giving us unity - John 17:20-21
· Thwarting the attacks of Satan - 1 Peter 5:8
· Protecting the leadership of the church

I have been reading about Samson in Judges 13-16. There are some good lessons for parenting in the story of Samson. The first thing I noticed is what the angel told them about Samson in 13:5. The angel tells them Samson is to be set apart to God from birth, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the Philistines. I think that is what God wants for every child. As Christian parents, we need to set our children apart to God and train them to be deliverers.
After the angel appeared to Samson’s mother and told her that their son was to be set apart for the deliverance of Israel, his father prayed this prayer, "O Lord, I beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born." (Judges 13:8) Samson’s father is asking for help to know how to raise their son. I believe this a prayer that every parent should be praying daily.

Judges 2:7-13 says that the people of Israel served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the elders who had seen the mighty acts of God. After Joshua and the elders died, a generation grew up that did not know God or what He had done. Ultimately, they forsook the Lord and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. These verses really show the importance of talking to our children about the mighty acts of God and raising up leaders who know God. I have often heard it said that the church is just one generation from extinction. This statement is shown to be true in these verses.

Joshua is sending the eastern tribes home. As they leave, he gives them a road map to help them honor God. Listen to what he tells them in Joshua 22:5. “But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to obey his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and all your soul." When those words are lived out in our lives, we will bring glory and honor to our Heavenly Father.
