Don't Beat Up Christ

Every time that we bad mouth the church or a follower of Christ, it is like hitting ourselves with a hammer.  That doesn’t make sense to me.  As a Christ-follower, we are beating up the body of Christ when we verbally attack another part of the body.  Ephesians 4:29 tells us not to let any unwholesome talk come out of our mouths.  My mother said, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”  Here are some ways to stop beating up the body of Christ.
1)      When someone starts to talk negatively about a fellow follower of Christ or the church, stop them or walk away.  By listening, you give them an audience; and they will continue.

2)      Always look for the positive, and praise God for what you have seen.

3)      When you see things that aren’t right, pray about it; you won’t have time to be negative.

4)      Yell “Ouch” every time someone begins to beat up the body of Christ.  They will get the point.

Inquiring for Victory

I was reading in 2 Samuel 5.  In verses 17-25, David is going to battle against the Philistines.  Two times David inquired of the Lord.  Two times there is victory.  I don’t know what battles you are facing today, but I would really encourage you to spend time before our Father before you do battle.  We may not be going up before an army like David, but we are battling rulers and authorities of this dark world as we prepare lessons, worship, and do ministry.   Before you meet with that person, take it to the Lord.  As you prepare a lesson, spend some time talking to our Father about what He would have you to say.  If you are going to enter a combative situation, ask the Lord how to handle it.  There is a direct correlation between how much we inquire of the Lord and how many victories we will see.
