Hearing God's Voice

Splash the Wonder Dog and I were watching TV the other night.  Smokey the Bear came on and said, “Only you can prevent forest fires.”  Splash turned to me and said, “That is crazy! Everyone knows that bears can’t talk.”
You know lots of people don’t believe that God still speaks today.  I believe that if anyone seriously picks up God’s Word and studies it, they will hear the voice of God.   If you want to hear God speak, try these things.

Ask God to speak to you, and then read His Word.

Read God’s Word until He tells you to do something.  Then be obedient.

Memorize and meditate on a passage.

Read. Pray. Do.

Not Serious?

“They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.”  Jeremiah 6:13
This verse from Jeremiah is talking about the priests’ attitude toward sin.  Sin was not a big deal to them anymore.  It would be like your doctor telling you that your cancer was just a minor thing.  It is hard to confront sin.  It is not fun and often painful.  However, we must take it seriously because it separates us from our Heavenly Father and steals our peace.  Ultimately, sin leads to death.  There is nothing minor about sin.
The cure for sin is very simple.
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”  1 Peter 2:24
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”  Acts 3:19
“Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

Lions and Priests

The King of Assyria resettled the cities of Samaria after he captured them.  They took over Samaria and lived in those towns.  2 Kings 17:25 says, “When they first lived there, they did not worship the Lord; so he sent lions among them and they killed some of the people.”  When the king of Assyria heard about this, he recognized it as a spiritual problem. 2 Kings 17:27 tells us how he took action.  “Then the king of Assyria gave this order: ‘Have one of the priests you took captive from Samaria go back to live there and teach the people what the god of the land requires."  America has a spiritual problem.  While it is not lions that are ravaging the land, we recognize that financial ruin, sexually transmitted disease, addictions, etc. are taking their toll.  The priest that God has sent back to help is the church.  We must teach America what God requires.
